What types of conditions does Dr. Richard treat?
Dr. Richard is a family medicine physician and a certified Institute for Functional Medicine practitioner. He has treated a wide range of conditions, including complex medical illnesses that have not improved despite seeing multiple practitioners. Some of the conditions he has treated include -Long Covid, electrohypersensitivity, pain (both post-surgical and long lasting), chemical sensitivity, autoimmune issues, anxiety, depression, Lyme disease, mold toxicity, and many more.

By addressing the right issue at the right time, Dr. Richard helps his patients achieve optimal health and wellness.
What is integrative/functional medicine and how does it differ from traditional medicine?
Functional medicine is a personalized approach to healthcare that focuses on identifying and addressing the root causes of illness rather than simply treating symptoms. Unlike traditional medicine, which often relies on medication or surgery to treat symptoms, functional medicine aims to restore balance and optimize the body’s natural functions through a variety of holistic and integrative therapies.
Dr. Chen is a family medicine physician with additional training as a Certified Institute for Functional Medicine practitioner, which means he has expertise in applying functional medicine principles to the treatment of a wide range of chronic and complex conditions.
He approaches patient care with a focus on identifying the underlying factors that contribute to a patient’s symptoms and tailoring treatment plans to address those factors.
He practices integrative medicine because after getting certified in functional medicine, he got certified in acupuncture, nutrigenetics, and prolozone (strengthening joints/ligaments). He also has training in neural therapy.
How does Dr. Richard approach treatment for his clients?
Dr. Richard listens to his patients and their story. From there, he does his examination and determines the most probable causes for what is going on.
Once he determines the causes, he prioritizes them (if we want to plant a flower, we have to make space in the ground, plant the seeds and water them in that order). There is an order of treatment based on the individual. Treatments are done with supplements, food changes, acupuncture, neural therapy, and lasers.
What is The Wheel of Health?
The Wheel of Health is a model that Dr. Chen has developed to help improve the mental and physical health of his patients who have been sick for years. It is based on seven different spokes representing the major categories of health: Mental, Dental, Gut, Adrenal, Environmental, Hormonal, and Immune. Those issues can affect a person’s risk of Electrohypersensitivity (being aware of electrical, magnetic, and radiofrequency waves such as cellphones/wifi).
Dr. Chen believes that addressing the right health issues at the right time is essential to get the Wheel turning and the person back to health. He has written a book called “A New Way to Health: The Wheel of Health” where he explains his philosophy about healing and how this model has helped many of his patients.
