I thought I knew about GMO food but I was wrong.  I had heard Jeffrey Smith the GMO expert many years back and understood his point that GMO food was not natural and not good.  That’s the main point I got all these years but then I listened to his talk at the recent Alzheimer’s summit and learned more detailed information which made me realize I really had to avoid GMO foods.

There are negative effects of GMOs that I found about more about.  What are they?  Good question.

He went over a 2017  article where 3,256  people went off GMO food and noticed what health effects happened. Here’s the top 5 issues that people noticed improvement when they switched to non GMO diets

Fatigue 60
Overweight 54
Brain fog 51
Mood problems/anxiety/depression 51

 

Perhaps the numbers may be higher than expected but it’s amazing the types of improvement that happened. Think about it – the health risks of gmos include gut problems, energy issues, weight issues, brain thinking, and mood issues. 

Those are the top issues that people come to see functional/integrative doctors about!!

The question I thought of when I heard about this study – what foods are GMO in the US? 

Most Alfafa, canola oil, corn, cotton, papaya, potato, soy, sugar beet, and zucchini/summer squash are genetically modified. 

You eat alfalfa indirectly  –  alfalfa is a major crop used to feed livestock so unless you eat organic  meat, you may be eating animals that ate GMO alfalfa.

So based on what an average American is exposed to,  I would suggest eating organic corn, potatoes, soy beans, organic sugar or sugar not derived from sugar beets (perhaps coconut sugar), zucchini/summer squash, and wearing organic cotton clothes.

So I would suggest eating non GMO or preferably organic (which doesn’t include pesticides as well).  It’s hard to change habits – when you see the regular corn on sale at the local supermarket – it just seems to shout out  to you.

But we have the information in front of us – we just have to change the habits which is harder than it seems.
