What’s the best way to eat to lower your sugars? I’ve been trying to work on that as I wanted to lower my sugars. I have been taking supplements which helps somewhat but I think managing how I eat is the way to go to manage the sugars.
I’ve done fasting before so the idea of fasting is not foreign to me. But I wanted to know the best way to fast to lower blood sugars.
I read an article about fasting which sounded really intriguing. Let me tell you about my experience.

Experience of Fasting
I had to fast every other day so every other day I can eat my normal foods or more if I wanted to:). The next day I would have to eat either 25% or 50% of my normal calorie intake. I didn’t really want to eat less than I had to so I ate 50% of the calories. What would you do?
So I ended up having a full lunch one day and skipping dinner. That worked but it was kind of tough watching the family eat while I drank water. So the next time I changed it to a smaller lunch and a smaller dinner. That was a little bit easier to take emotionally.
I was a little hungry as I was doing this but I decided to drink more water and tea to fill my stomach without the calories. And what did I notice?
After just two weeks, I lost 5 pounds and best of all, most of it was from my belly! I checked one of my morning sugars and it was the lowest it had been in a while!
How Fasting Helps Control Sugars
What’s going on? This is called Alternate Day Fasting(ADF) and it’s a way to lower insulin levels. Most people with Diabetes Mellitus have elevated insulin levels and ADF compared to just eating less lowers the insulin level more as well as making the body more sensitive to insulin (which is a good thing).
It was amazing to me that making a change to my eating habits made quite a difference. I could notice that the belly circumference was better and I could see the lower weight on the scale.
A little effort, some strategic eating, and some fasting helped create the results in a matter of weeks!
So what you eat is important for sugars as we know. But realize that when we eat is just as important. They did studies and the ADF day could either be just one meal at lunch or broken up into several different meals. It doesn’t affect how well it works whether you split it up in one meal or several smaller meals.
So if you have trouble with your sugars, this is one way to make it better. Try this and if you want help how to deal with your sugars other than food, please contact me.
