Why do we have mental health problems? I’ll explain the latest medical breakthrough courtesy of a Harvard Med School psychiatrist – Dr. Chris Palmer.
I heard about this from the Integrative Medicine for Mental Health conference last week.
Let’s read about a story which brings home the point.
Case of Brain Energy Effecting Health
The retired gentleman started with loose stools for about two weeks which made him lose weight. It also affected his taste buds so his favorite food of eggs now disgusted him. One of his eyes became red and sensitive to light.
He didn’t feel right mentally – something was off. When I saw him, I checked his blood pressure and it was quite low but he said that he wasn’t dizzy.
After the visit, he and his wife decided to go off several of his blood pressure medications under medical supervision.
Therefore when I saw him in follow up, he was doing a lot, lot better. He felt better and he could think better.
More Blood Flow, More Brain Health
Before – he wasn’t doing so well because his blood pressure was too low to supply his brain. He didn’t feel good and his brain was blood starved.
When the blood pressure was better, blood and energy was able to reach his brain. He could think better and he could feel better. Brain health is about energy. If there’s energy to the brain then there’s a healthy brain.
So if you or a loved one has mental health issues, realize that their brain is not doing well energy wise. Improve the brain energy and their mental health will improve.
How we live, what we eat/drink and multiple other factors contribute to our energy and most of them are fixable. Improve your mental well being by taking care of the factors that are good for your body metabolically and the brain will heal.
