What’s with the flat belly?  What does that have to do with Diabetes Mellitus and Ketogenic diet?

One of the effects of the ketogenic diet is the loss of belly fat. Not that should be the main goal but it’s a nice side benefit.

Let me tell you about a person and their experience with the  ketogenic diet.

Ketogenic Diet for Diabetes

The middle aged man was diabetic and didn’t want to be on medications for the Diabetes. He tried supplements which helped a little bit.   Exercise was tried to help improve the sugars which helped a little bit.

His sugars was the best after he first got diagnosed when he watched his food very carefully.  Since the food change made the sugars the best, it was decided that he would watch his diet very carefully.

He would get rid of all carbs – no breads, noodles, grains, or any sweets such as fruits. On that diet, his sugars went down and so did his belly fat!  His weight also went down even though he wasn’t watching the amount of food he was eating. 

Benefits of Ketogenic Diet

A recent study confirmed this man’s experience. The ketogenic diet is a diet where the body changes its energy supply from sugars to fats. And what happens?

The body fat goes down including the belly fat! The sugar goes down as the carbohydrates intake goes down.   There definitely is a change in what kind of foods you eat but the interesting thing about this diet is that you don’t have to watch calories.

So a diet which lowers sugars by limiting what kind of foods to eat but not the amount of calories – that’s pretty cool! 

 

So if you or a friend are diabetic, think about the ketogenic diet.  Of course, do it under medical supervision as this diet is a little more restrictive than other diets.
