What can you do about an autoimmune disease?  That’s what happens when your body is attacking itself.  The most common autoimmune disease I see these days is Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

The attack on the body makes a person produce less thyroid hormones. The conventional medical method is to perhaps check the thyroid antibodies once to diagnose it then not bother checking it again.

Let’s read about a client who got holistic treatment for Hashimoto’s.

Treating Hashimoto’s

The wise lady developed Hashimoto’s during menopause.  She tried thyroid medications but it didn’t help so she went off the medications.  Life went on and she raised a couple of kids.

She saw me 20 years after her diagnosis of Hashimoto’s and told me that the bluetooth in the car made her tired. And that using the laptop for long periods of time also tired her out. Her thyroid antibodies when I saw her were about 17x normal.

She had a couple of health issues which led to her body attacking the thyroid. I decreased her sensitivity to bluetooth/laptops, the emotional trauma that she had dealing with her father being a narcissist, and a couple other things.

I also placed her on a medication which regulates the immune system but doesn’t make it weak. Repeat thyroid testing showed that her thyroid antibodies were now 8x normal which is half of what they were before!

Treating Autoimmunity

You are saying – What!? Autoimmune diseases can be treated.  Yes, they can.

There are causes of autoimmune diseases and if you deal with the causes then the autoimmune condition can decrease.

It’s all about thinking differently.  When I studied functional medicine a decade ago, we were taught that we could treat autoimmunity.  Whereas in medical school, that was not discussed as that was not a possibility. You can’t do something if you don’t think it’s possible.

So if you or someone you know has an autoimmune disease know that something can be done.

Common autoimmune diseases other than thyroid are Diabetes Mellitus type 1 not type 2, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriasis, Alopecia Areata, and Vitiligo.

The normal treatment is medications that weakens your immune system.  In most cases that may work but occasionally a weakened immune system may lead to infections or cancers.

That is not a good thing.
